Learning
Everyone, regardless of age, is curious about God and Jesus. We have learning opportunities for everyone.
Adult
Every Wednesday morning a Spiritual Reflection is offered by one of the clergy of a United Church in Dartmouth. This can be found on the United Churches for Dartmouth or Grace’s Facebook page. Bible and book studies are offered throughout the year. Some are done by by Rev. Stephen Fram while others are offered by the other clergy of United Churches for Dartmouth at different venues.
“Who is Jesus to Me” is meant as a group exploration to help us understand how we are living our theology. It will help us to be able to speak about our ministries to other people whatever their perspective. Consider joining these facilitated discussions where we will look at contemporary examples and case studies, United Church doctrine statements and reflect on Scripture that meet us where we are. Together, we will hold a hospital space to reflect on what we understand Jesus to be as the “liberating, healing Christ, risen in this time and place”. These will be facilitated by Julee Pauling, Candidate for Ministry. They are offered at two different times (Sunday afternoons and Tuesday afternoons).
Join us and explore how faith, courage, and community help us navigate fear and uncertainty. Together, we’ll reflect on personal and collective bravery, drawing wisdom from Scripture, history and our own experiences. Let’s journey together in discovering what it means to live courageously in faith and love. For the journey, we be using Bishop Mariann Edgar Budde’s book, How We Learn to Be Brave (available Chapters, Amazon online, Bookmark in Halifax and electronically).
The study is available at two different times and places with two different facilitators. Sessions are 90 minutes long and last 5 weeks. Wednesdays at 10:30am (starting March 12) will be in the parlour at St. James United Hall (183 Portland St.) facilitated by Rev. Catherine MacDonald (parking available at Mattatall’s). Thursdays at 2pm (starting March 13) will be at Grace United Church facilitated by Rev. Stephen Fram. There will be a joint session on Thursday, March 27 at Grace at 2pm.
Library
Our library emerges for Fellowship Time. There are books for both adults and children in a variety of topics such as church history, spirituality, prayer, inspiration and current topics. Please check out what is available for borrowing.
In the little nook behind, we also have new-to-you books for sale. This supports new acquisitions for our library.
Truth and Reconciliation Monthly Discussion
People who wish to respond to our national church’s call to live out our apology and reconcile with the first peoples of this country meet monthly. We take opportunities to educate ourselves but in 2024-25, we organize a monthly soup lunch after church, “Souper Sunday” that collect a freewill offering in support of the Mi’kmawey Debert Cultural Centre, a project that has been identified by the Mi’kmaq that they would like supported.
Meetings are generally held on the 2nd Monday of the month at 7pm, often held at the Hazens, 2 Brightwood Avenue, Dartmouth.
Grace provides a home to the Guiding (2nd Dartmouth Guides and 2nd Dartmouth Pathfinders) and Scouting (5th Dartmouth Beavers and 5th Dartmouth Scouts) movement. With the changes that have come with the Covid-19 please check out the guides and scouts sites for additional information.
“When Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were amazed at his teaching, because he taught as one who had authority, and not as their teachers of the law.
